All containers should be visually inspected for damage and deterioration after a motor vehicle accident or fire.
For vehicles with a GVWR greater than 10,000 pounds, CNG containers should be visually inspected at least every 12 months.
For vehicles with a GVWR less than or equal to 10,000 pounds, CNG containers should be visually inspected at least every 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Detailed Visual Inspection Requirements
A detailed visual inspection should be performed in accordance with the inspection intervals outlined by US DOT's FMVSS 304 by a qualified or certified inspector. Failure to perform examinations regularly or promptly (following an incident) may result in severe damage and/or injury.

Inspector Qualifications
A detailed visual inspection of a CNG fuel system is a critical safety procedure and must be performed by someone who is properly trained and certified on inspecting CNG vehicle components (including containers, valves, pressure relief devices, and vent systems) identifying and documenting defects or damage, and safely handling cylinders and fuel system components.
